Jay's Delicious Brownies

After many batches and several disasters, I've finally perfected my brownie recipe. These delicious fudgy brownies are rich & chocolately, with a slight hint of hazelnut. If you love brownies, you'll definitely love these. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tbs. vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup Nutella
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Ghirardelli Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Lightly grease a 9" x 13" pan with butter.  Cut a piece of Parchment paper to cover the bottom of the pan, along with extra on each side and place into the pan.  Lightly grease that with a little bit more butter.  You basically want the entire bottom of the pan to be covered, and you want two handles sticking up from the sides.  This will act as a "sling" for easier removal later.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter, sugars, Nutella & vanilla.  Add in each egg, one at a time.  Making sure the egg is thoroughly mixed, before you add your next egg.
  3. Slowly add in the salt, flour & cocoa powder and mix until you no longer see any lumps.  The batter will be very thick.
  4. Add the batter to your baking pan and spread it out evenly.
  5. Bake for about 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Set on wire rack and allow to cool completely.

Yields  12 large brownies

  • Your baking time will vary, depending on your oven and pan.  Keep a very close eye on them to make sure they don't burn.
  • Nutella can be found in your supermarket next to the peanut butter & jelly.

How's the texture? Is it cake like or more dense?

Response from Jay Gustafson:

It's more fudgy/dense.

Nutella? That's a nice twist. Definitely trying this soon.

Response from Jay Gustafson:

Yup, Nutella! :) I've never done much with Nutella aside of just spreading it on toast or fresh strawberries. But it was sitting on the counter one day, when I was making my brownies. So I added it to the brownie batter and I've been adding it ever since. I hope you enjoy it.

You are brilliant to add Nutella to the brownie batter!! I bet the flavor is nice and subtle. Brownies are probably my favorite dessert item, and these look (and sound) VERY good.

Response from Jay Gustafson:

They have such a wonderful flavor. But you're the brownie expert, so let me know what you think if you give them a try. :)
